This makes the performances, which are all quite good line-by-line, mostly unworkable over the course of the two hour-long acts. Gerwig, onstage almost the whole time, barely dressed, exemplifies both extremes. That, alas, is the problem. Already a subscriber? Log in or link your magazine subscription. Account Profile.

The Village Bike, Royal Court Upstairs, review - Telegraph
Community Reviews. Showing Rating details. Sort order. Jun 20, Doug rated it really liked it. A local production got VERY polarizing reviews, so that spurred me to read this. Skinner does an excellent job of delineating how male dominant culture pretty much screws everyone up, especially the hapless 'heroine', Becky, who struggles against her own innate desires, versus what she has been 'taught' is the proper way for a pregnant woman to behave.
Dec 28, Wendy Bousfield rated it it was ok Shelves: play. John and Becky are a couple in their early thirties, expecting their first child. They have moved to a picturesque rural village and are renovating their new house. The marriage is in crisis because they are hopelessly at cross-purposes about this new stage in their lives.
A fanatic about locally sourced food, John is, similarly, dogmatic about how Becky conducts her pregnancy. John has decided to eschew sex, maintaining that it will harm the fetus.
